Pell Grants

Pell Grants are awarded to student with low or moderate incomes who have not earned a bachelor's degree or professional degree. Your need is determined by the information you provide on your FAFSA form ( Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid and the maximum amount you can receive each year is set by the Government. The maximum amount you can currently receive is $4,050 dollars this year and it rises ever so slightly from year to year. The 1999-2000 maximum reward was $3,125. The president is trying to raise the maximum to $4,550.

You do not have to be a full-time student to receive a Pell Grant, but your reward will be reduced based on your part-time schedule.

The amount of money you may receive is based on your need, whether you are a part-time or full-time student, the cost of tuition at your current school, and how long you attended the school.
